Amanda’s own garden photographed for the book

FIRST-TIME GARDENER, BY FRANCES TOPHILL

I was really pleased to have my own garden photographed for Gardener’s World presenter Frances’s first book, First Time Gardener.  It’s a beautifully presented book with lovely line illustrations throughout and is full of practical and inspi.rational tips for anyone new to gardening.

It was late September when the photos were taken, so my garden was full of pale grasses and textural seedheads, many of which have been photographed as plant portraits, as well as some longer-shot images including of my bird bath, a wonderfully extravagant purchase I made some years back which is partly for the birds (it’s very funny when the pigeons climb in and splash about!) and partly for a permanent sculptural element.
