Sheds! January 2010

In my Lady Gardens broadcast for BBC Somerset (January 2010) I talked about sheds and how, while a necessity in most gardens, they can be a bit of an eyesore. I’d spent a weekend at the beginning of January in a very gorgeous house in Cornwall, where a feature of the interior design was the repeated use of pairs of oversized lamps. It was both the symmetry and the surprising scale that appealed to me, and it occurred to me that this would be a good treatment for a shed. A bit of Farrow and Ball neutral paint, cedar shingles on the roof, two huge pots with large plants either side of the door and hey presto, you have something really rather gorgeous.
